Fatal on-the-job highway incidents in 2004The number of job-related deaths from highway incidents was up slightly in 2004 after declining the two previous years. The 1,374 fatal highway incidents recorded in 2004 represented about one out of every four fatal work injuries in 2004. Highway incidents continue to be the leading cause of on-the-job fatalities. The Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries, part of the BLS Injuries, Illnesses, and Fatalities program, provides the most complete count of fatal work injuries available.
