February 20, 2001 (The Editor’s Desk is updated each business day.) Producer prices up in JanuaryThe Producer Price Index for Finished Goods advanced 1.1 percent in January, seasonally adjusted. January's rise followed a 0.2-percent increase in December 2000 and a 0.1-percent gain in November 2000. Prices for finished goods other than foods and energy rose 0.7 percent in January, after edging up 0.1 percent in December. Prices received by domestic producers of intermediate goods moved up 0.7 percent in January following a 0.4 percent rise the prior month. The crude goods index advanced 13.9 percent in January after an 8.5 percent increase in December. From January 2000 to January 2001, prices for finished goods increased 4.8 percent.
