Managed care more common among State and local government employees

Three quarters of full-time State and local government employees with medical care coverage participated in managed care plans in 1998. This was up from 62 percent in 1994.

Among State and local government workers participating in health care plans, 39 percent were in health maintenance organizations (HMOs) in 1998, compared with 30 percent in 1994; 35 percent were in preferred provider organizations (PPOs) in 1998, compared with 30 percent in 1994.
