Supplement Focuses on Periodontal Disease SurveillanceThe American Academy of Peridontology (AAP) has published the papers presented at the 2006 American Association of Dental Research symposium, Development of Self-Reported Measures for Surveillance of Periodontitis ib a July 2007 supplement to the Journal of Periodontology. These papers highlight activities of an independent periodontal disease surveillance work group convened by the CDC Division of Oral Health in collaboration with the AAP to examine using self-reported measures for population-based surveillance of periodontal disease in the United States. The supplement provides reports on the background and perspectives on surveillance of periodontal disease, case definitions for population-based surveillance of periodontal disease, analytical methods and assessments of self-report measures for surveillance in multiple datasets, and field-testing of promising self-report questions.
