H.R. 935, the SERVE Act, would grant a $1000 tax credit for active members of volunteer firefighting and emergency medical service organizations. I have been offering the bill since 2002 because I believe it is time we start encouraging such willing acts of courage and honor them by providing a small token of our appreciation. A companion bill has been introduced by Senator Charles Schumer (NY) in the Senate.
