Under legislation enacted at the end of 2003, Medicare Part D has begun offering new prescription drug coverage. In Massachusetts, this coverage will be available through 17-stand alone private drug plans and six Medicare managed options, known as Medicare Advantage Plans.

Medicare recipients have been able to take advantage of the expanded drug coverage starting January 1, 2006. Seniors now have until May 15, 2006 to sign up before being charged a one percent monthly premium or have to wait until the next open enrollment period which being in November.

For answers to common questions about the new prescription drug benefit, Delahunt invites seniors to visit his website at www.house.gov/delahunt.   Seniors can also call Rep. Delahunt's Cape and Island office toll-free at 800-870-2626.
