Omaha Indian Music Album Booklet

Album Acknowledgments

Reproduced from Dorothy Sara Lee and Maria La Vigna, eds. Omaha Indian Music: Historical Recordings from the Fletcher/La Flesche Collection. Washington, D.C.: Library of Congress, 1985

This album could not have been produced without the cooperation and encouragement of the Omaha people. We would like especially to thank the Omaha Tribal Council and its chairmen, Elmer Blackbird (1981-83) and Wade Miller (1983-present), Dennis Hastings, director of the Omaha Tribal Research Project, and singers Charles Edwards and the late John Turner, who helped Alan Jabbour identify and document the voices of the Omaha ancestors.

Erika Brady, recording technician for the Federal Cylinder Project, transferred the Fletcher-La Flesche cylinders to magnetic tape, and John Howell of the Library's Recording Laboratory mastered the recordings. John Carter of the Nebraska State Historical Society, the Reverend Gerry Gillet of the Presbyterian Historical Society, Carl Fleischhauer, and the staff of the National Anthropological Archives at the Smithsonian Institution were extremely helpful in locating both photographs and documentation for the Fletcher-La Flesche collection. Roger Welsch helped introduce us to the people and culture of Nebraska, Paul Brill provided extensive genealogies for the performers, and Judith Gray, Jim Hardin, Gregory Pontecorvo, and Brett Topping helped during the preparation of the manuscript.
