Defense and Homeland Security

In 2004, the bipartisan 9/11 Commission submitted 41 recommendations to the Administration and Congress on improving homeland security, preventing terrorists from acquiring weapons of mass destruction, and developing strategies for preventing the spread of Islamic terrorism. However, despite the ongoing risk to families in the Second Congressional district and across the country, many have only been partially implemented and others not at all. That is why I was proud to support the Implementing the 9/11 Commission Recommendations Act (H.R. 1) in the first hours of the 110th Congress, which includes critical provisions such as strengthening first responder grant programs, requiring inspection of all aircraft cargo, and tackling the threat of global nuclear proliferation and securing our nation’s airports, transit systems and ports.

As the representative of eastern Connecticut, I will continue to work to ensure that our first responders have the resources they need to protect our communities and support efforts to strengthen the security of our nation.
