Washington DC – Congressman Dennis Cardoza (D-Atwater) announced today that he has secured seats on the Resources Water & Power and National Parks, Recreation & Public Lands Subcommittees. These important assignments will allow Cardoza to work closely on issues that directly impact the 18th Congressional District of California.

"These subcommittees have jurisdiction over many of the most critical issues in the Valley. From increasing our water supply to preserving our national parks, these are all quality of life issues that effect my constituents and the region as a whole," said Cardoza.

The Resources Committee includes other lawmakers from the region who are committed to moving forward on important projects this year. Congressman Richard Pombo (R-Tracy) was recently appointed Chair of the Resources Committee and Congressman George Radanovich (R- Mariposa) serves as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Parks, Recreation & Public Lands. "We have a unique opportunity to really deliver for Valley residents on issues that will come before the committee. I look forward to working with all of my colleagues to develop common sense solutions to the problems facing our region," Cardoza said.

Specifically, Cardoza is interested in striking a balance between preserving agricultural land and protecting endangered species, moving forward on the authorization and financing of water storage projects within CALFED, and seeking tax credits or other incentives for fuel efficient vehicles.

As the authorizing subcommittee for the Bureau of Reclamation and the Federal power marketing administrations, the Subcommittee on Water and Power is involved in all aspects of shaping Federal policies for water and power resources management, especially in the rapidly growing West. The subcommittee on National Parks, Recreation & Public Lands focuses on preserving these natural resources for future generations.

Congressman Cardoza also serves on the Agriculture Committee.
