WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Dennis Cardoza announced a workshop today that will be hosted by The San Luis & Delta-Mendota Water Authority. As the guest speaker, Cardoza will be discussing water issues affecting the San Joaquin Valley with an emphasis on drought and water supply issues. The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 5 at Los Banos City Hall. Specific topics will include the 2009 water supply outlook, implications of the Delta Smelt/Salmon Biological Opinion, long-term Delta solutions and the San Joaquin River restoration effort. Growers, water districts and concerned residents are invited to attend. Joining Cardoza and the Water Authority will be representatives from the Bureau of Reclamation. “We have to plan for our future,” said Congressman Cardoza. “Our state has doubled in population since the last dam was built. It is essential that we build more storage facilities. We cannot conserve our way out of this crisis.” |
