Cardoza Announces Local Military Academy Nominees

WASHINGTON – Congressman Dennis Cardoza (D-Merced) today announced the selection of eight students from the 18th Congressional District for nomination to the class of 2012 at the U.S Military Academy– West Point, the Naval Academy – Annapolis, and the Air Force Academy –Colorado Springs.
“I am very pleased to nominate this distinguished group on behalf of the 18th District,” said Cardoza. “These fine young people and their families should be very proud. Each is an exceptional nominee with the potential to win an appointment.”
Those nominated by Cardoza are:
Kayla Taylor of Atwater - UC Merced U.S. Air Force Academy
Michael Ian Wright Thomas Downey High School, Modesto U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy, and the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Austin Bennett Modesto High School U.S. Military Academy
Lucas “Luke” Walker of Stockton Merrill High School, Tracy U.S. Air Force Academy
Robert Gonzaga Atwater High School U.S. Air Force Academy
Clifton Wahlberg of Fresno Bullard High School U.S. Naval Academy
Jared Maddox Modesto Junior College U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Air Force Academy
Kim Millermon Los Banos High School U.S. Naval Academy
Each year, Congressman Cardoza has the privilege of nominating talented young men and women from California’s 18th congressional district to the nation’s service academies. Cardoza’s Academy Selection Committee interviewed each applicant and made its recommendations to Cardoza last week. The selection of nominees is based on a composite of academic factors, including junior class rank and SAT scores, along with leadership potential.
