Cardoza Secures Millions For Valley In Appropriations Bill

Legislation Includes Support For Valley Transportation, Water, Law Enforcement, And Schools

WASHINGTON – Rep. Dennis Cardoza, D-Merced, secured millions of dollars in critical funding for the Central Valley in the 2005 Omnibus Appropriations Bill recently approved by Congress.  Projects include support for Valley transportation, water, law enforcement, health care, and schools.

 

“I am very pleased with how this bill turned out for the 18th Congressional District,” Cardoza said. “After months of meeting with colleagues and constituents about how to best obtain federal funding for our most important priorities, it is clear that our efforts paid off.”

 

Among the projects funded are:

 

Transportation

 

-$1 million for upgrades at the Castle Airport in Merced County

-$1 million for the Modesto Bus Facility

-$400,000 for a project study report of Highway 132 near Modesto

 

Energy and Water

 

-$200,000 for Orestimba Creek Flood Control

-$500,000 for Merced Streams construction and $292,000 for operation and maintenance

-$200,000 for Tuolumne River Flood Control

-$1 million for Grasslands/Westside Regional Drainage Plan

 

"Joint" requests

-$1 million for Farmington Dam construction and $528,000 for operation and maintenance

-$2.5 million for Stockton Flood Control reimbursement

-$1 million for Daggett Road (leads into the Port of Stockton)

 

Labor/Heath and Human Services

 

-$300,000 for the San Joaquin General Hospital Automated Dispensing System

-$650,000 for the San Joaquin Reads Program

-$380,000 for Stockton After School Programs

 

Commerce, Justice, and State

 

-$100,000 for the Merced County "Meth is Death" Project

-$300,000 for the Modesto Law Enforcement Communications Project

 

VA/HUD

 

-$322,750 for the Stockton El Dorado Teen Center

-$150,000 for the Modesto 9th Street Storm Drain Project
