Internships

I am currently accepting applications for internships in my Washington, DC office and Merced, Modesto and Stockton District offices. Applicants from the 18th Congressional District will receive first priority.

Washington , D.C. Office:

If you are interested in public service and the legislative process, my Washington, DC Congressional internship program is a great way to get first-hand experience working in our nation's Capitol.  Interns perform a number of duties including giving Capitol tours, writing constituent correspondence, answering phones, attending committee hearings and working on other special projects.

Potential candidates for the Washington program should have a solid work ethic and be willing to contribute whatever is needed in a team environment. College graduates are preferred, as applicants tend to work full-time Monday to Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Applicants must be at least 21-years-old .

To apply for the internship, please submit a resume and cover letter stating why you are interested in the position. A brief phone interview may be necessary. Summer months fill quickly and applicants are encouraged to apply early.

All Washington, D.C applications should be addressed to the attention of my Intern Coordinator, Sean Trambley, via email sean.trambley@mail.house.gov. Although this position is unpaid, interns may receive academic credit for their work.

(Internship lengths are flexible, and students on the quarter system may apply.)

California District Offices:

If you live in the 18th Congressional District of California, I am currently accepting applications for internships in my Merced , Modesto and Stockton District offices.

Intern responsibilities include greeting constituents and handling constituent phone calls, assisting staff with administrative tasks, conducting legislative research and assisting with constituent correspondence.

To apply for a district internship, please submit a resume and cover letter stating why you are interested in the position. A brief phone interview may be necessary. Summer months fill quickly and applicants are encouraged to apply early. Applicants for the district program do NOT need to be 21 years old.

Tia Kaneholo

Born and raised in the Merced area, Tia is a senior at Atwater’s Buchanan Colony High School. She is a part of Junior State of America, the California Scholarship Federation, and Student Activities on campus. She hopes to attend the Academy of Art University in San Francisco to major in Fashion Design.

Christina Matthews

I am proud to say that I am a former foster youth of Merced County.”  This exceptional young lady completed high school in Los Banos and went on to play basketball for Gavilan City College in Gilroy.  She returned to Merced and enrolled in Merced City College.  Her goal is to complete her education and work with foster youth in Merced County.  To help execute this goal she works as a Foster Youth Assistance Worker for Merced County HSA and is interning through the Merced County Summer Youth Program.

Toua Xiong

Toua is a Merced native with a BA in Sociology from CSU, Stanislaus and is enrolled in their Masters’ program in Public Administration. He also volunteers at the Merced Lao Family Community Center where he counsels Hmong resident clients. “Working in a legislative office isn’t all about the policies and politics, it’s also about serving its constituents.”
