Windows Vista Compatibility with the CAMEO Suite

The development team has tested the latest versions of the CAMEO programs on the Windows Vista operating system:

  • ALOHA 5.4.1.2
  • CAMEO 2.0
  • CAMEO Chemicals 2.0.1
  • MARPLOT 4.0.1

All work in Vista, and only one minor problem was found:

  • The on-screen help in ALOHA will not work in Vista unless you download a program (WinHlp32.exe) from Microsoft. Follow the instructions below to resolve this problem.
Getting ALOHA help to run in Vista

The on-screen help in ALOHA requires the WinHlp32.exe file to open them. This program was previously included as part of Microsoft’s operating systems, but it is not included in Vista. When you try to open an ALOHA help window in Vista, you will see a note explaining the situation and directing you to a Microsoft support page.

Alternatively, you can follow the instructions below to download the file directly.

Note: We’ve had some trouble trying to validate the operating system using a Firefox browser, so you may need to use an Internet Explorer browser.

  1. Go to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=82148. Note: You can’t see the download files until you validate your operating system.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to validate your operating system, which may involve downloading and installing a plugin.
  3. Return to the download page. The page should now show the download files that were hidden before.
  4. Download and install the file that is appropriate for your system. For most users this will be the file called Windows6.0-KB917607-x86.msu. If you download the wrong file, you will see an error message during the installation process telling you that this file does not apply to your system.
  5. Once you have installed the correct file, the ALOHA helps will work again.
