Post-Doctoral Research Program
Background
These non-laboratory, post-doctoral positions are ideal for scientists interested
in learning more about the application of toxicological, epidemiological and
environmental research to support the development of human health and environmental
risk assessments and science policies that inform environmental management
decisions.
EPA's Office of the Science Advisor (OSA) periodically seeks qualified individuals to fill positions in our post-doctoral program. The Office of the Science (OSA) provides leadership in cross-Agency science policy development. OSA's mission is to ensure that the highest quality science is integrated into Agency policies and decisions. The OSA accomplishes this through five functionalities: The Science Policy Council (SPC) Staff, the Risk Assessment Forum (RAF), the Human Studies Review Program, the Environmental Technology Staff, and Earth Observations Systems (including the Council for Regulatory Environmental Modeling-CREM, Forum on Environmental Measurement, and Global Earth Observing Systems of Systems-GEOSS).
The OSA post-doctoral program provides developmental and professional work experiences. Individuals who have completed their doctoral degrees will have the opportunity to conduct applied research in an applicable area of science or engineering. The program allows for cross-fertilization between OSA and outside organizations (industry, academia, etc.) that will promote mutual understanding through an exchange of scientific talent and should stimulate cross-disciplinary research opportunities. Through the use of the Post-doctoral Fellows Program, doctoral degreed candidates will be hired to work on specific research projects that are Agency-wide with tangible benefits to EPA as well as to the public. In turn, the candidates will develop their research skills by developing guidelines and implementation strategies for EPA-wide projects that reflect best-available scientific knowledge and research in accordance with EPA's science missions.
