Congresswoman Bordallo Discusses Ocean Preservation with Experts  

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—June 5, 2007Washington, D.C

Congresswoman Bordallo, Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife and Oceans of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Natural Resources, today met with Jean-Michel Cousteau, renowned explorer, environmentalist, educator, film producer, and President of Ocean’s Future Society, Dr. Kathryn Clark, Member of the Board of Trustees of the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation and President of Docere, a company specializing in science and education, and Sylvia Earle, Ph.D., President of Deep Search International. Jean-Michel Cousteau is also the son of famed explorer Jacques Cousteau. Their meeting was in conjunction with Capitol Hill Ocean Week 2007 activities. 

Leading ocean experts from the federal government, private industry, academia and nonprofit organizations will convene in Washington, D.C., for Capitol Hill Ocean Week from June 5-7 to review the current state of the oceans and discuss how to best protect them. The three-day forum, hosted by the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, will feature presentations by such dignitaries as ocean explorer Jean-Michel Cousteau, Senator Ted Stevens, Joint Ocean Commission Initiative Co-chair Leon Panetta and Vikki Spruill, president and CEO of the Ocean Conservancy.
