EPA Strategic Plan
Developing the 2009-2014 EPA Strategic Plan
The Strategic Plan identifies the measurable environmental and human health outcomes the public can expect over the next five years and describes how we intend to achieve those results. Last fall, EPA released the Agency’s 2009-2014 Strategic Plan Change Document (PDF) (65pp, 904K) for a 60-day public review and comment period ending November 30, 2008. The ideas and proposals in this document, as modified by public comment, serve as the basis for developing the three-year update of the Strategic Plan, as required by the Government Performance and Results Act of 1993 (GPRA).
We are using the public comments, as well as input from Agency partners and stakeholders, on the Strategic Plan Change Document to prepare the full-text draft of the Plan. The full-text draft, originally scheduled for release in the spring of 2009, and the final Plan, originally scheduled for issuance in September 2009, have been delayed to allow additional time for review by the Agency’s new leadership.
2006 - 2011 EPA Strategic Plan
EPA submitted the Agency's 2006-2011 Strategic Plan to Congress on September 29, 2006, as required under the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) of 1993. This revised Strategic Plan maintains the five goals that were described in the 2003-2008 Strategic Plan, but reflects a sharpened focus on achieving more measurable environmental results. The five goals are Clean Air and Global Climate Change, Clean and Safe Water, Land Preservation and Restoration, Healthy Communities and Ecosystems, and Compliance and Environmental Stewardship.
EPA’s Strategic Plan serves as the Agency’s road map and guides us in establishing the annual goals we need to meet along the way. It helps us measure how far we have come toward achieving our strategic goals and recognize where we need to adjust our approaches and programs to achieve better results. Finally, it provides a basis from which EPA’s managers can focus on the highest priority environmental issues and can ensure that we use taxpayer dollars effectively.
