The law authorized the establishment of an endowment program at eligible Section 736 health professions schools. This notification specifically targets “Section 736 Institutions with currently funded Programs of Excellence in Health Professions Education for Underrepresented Minority Individuals.” A description of such health professions schools is provided in Section 736 of Title I of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S. C. 293).
Pursuant to P.L. 106-525, the “Minority Health and Health Disparities Research and Education Act of 2000,” Section 736 institutions with net endowment assets that are less than/or equal to 50 percent of the national average of endowment assets for these schools are eligible to apply for endowment fund support.
