Congressional Art Competition

image

The Congressional Art Competition (CAC) has become increasingly popular among high school students in Hawaii and across the country. The annual Art Competition provides an excellent forum for demonstrating the importance of the arts in American society and gives students an opportunity to display their artistic skills.

The CAC is open to Hawaii's high school students (grades 9-12) from schools in the 1st Congressional District (Honolulu, Aiea, Pearl City, Waipahu, Ewa Beach and Mililani). The selected art piece will represent Hawaii and be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. Categories include 2-D (paintings, drawings, collages, and prints), photography and computer-generated art. The winning artist will be given the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. to view his or her artwork and to attend a reception honoring winners from congressional districts across the country. The CAC usually begins in February. Students should contact their art teachers or Gail Onuma in my district office in Honolulu.
