This earthquake caused the complete devastation of over 9,000 square miles and was felt over 1.75 million square miles. Over 1500 deaths. R.D. Oldham made a detailed study of this earthquake. He was the first to identify cleary the primary (P) and secondary (S) seismic waves from records of the Assam earthquake.
