Here are two excellent online resources that may be used in class with
learners, if your site has computers - OR you may print them and use them in
class for reading practice:

1) READING SKILLS FOR TODAY'S ADULTS (Marshall, MN, Adult Education)

Beautifully simple and useful stories at this site could be used with all
levels, even beginners. Each skill level on the site preteaches vocabulary
and has prereading questions as well as post-reading comprehension
questions. If you're using the texts online, you may do one-minute timed
readings of a paragraph (or short story) - after you've read it 3 times,
you're asked comprehension questions.

2) ADULT LEARNING ACTIVITIES: CALIFORNIA DISTANCE LEARNING PROJECT
(sponsored by California DOE's Adult Education Office)

Choose short or full-length adapted news stories on many different topics.
You may hear the story read as you read it - and with some stories, you may
even watch a video. Stories are followed by activities to practice
vocabulary, spelling, and writing.
