iPod (or MP3 player) is the language learner's best friend. If you want to
understand the usefulness of an iPod I suggest you buy one and start using it
for learning French or Spanish or some other language.<br>

Here is how I use it for Russian. <br>
<br>
1) I have iTunes installed on my computer. It comes with the iPod.<br>
2) I go to a Web site called Echo Mosvki which is full of news, interviews and
articles, all with audio and text available for download.<br>
3) I download my desired audio files to iTunes on my computer. I can provide
more info on how to do this if needed. <br>
4) I then hook up my iPod to my computer and transfer the audio files to my
iPod.<br>
5) I download the text of each sound file to my computer.<br>
6) I read the text, saving words and phrases for review in Flash Cards, while
using an online dictionary.<br>
7) I have been at Russian for over 2 years. At first I would listen to easier
content and listen 30-40 times to each item. Now I listen to difficult content
and listen only a few times. I have learned over 40,000 Russian words. (
Russian is a highly inflected language).<br>
<br>
Some people read or watch videos in their iPods. I do not. I find that just
listening, in combination with reading and word review, is more portable and
more effective. The iPod is small and can be carried everywhere so the
language is always with you.<br>
<br>
Let me know if you need more information. I think that ESL teachers
should be helping each other by creating and sharing content. <br>
<br>
At LingQ much of our content is contributed by learners, e.g. Brazilians and
Japanese learning English give us Portuguese and Japanese, English people
learning Russian give us English etc. Most of them use Audacity, a free
software, to manage the recording of their content for sharing.<br>
