This picture of NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander's Wet Chemistry Laboratory
(WCL) cell is labeled with components responsible for mixing Martian soil
with water from Earth, adding chemicals and measuring the solution
chemistry. WCL is part of the Microscopy, Electrochemistry, and
Conductivity Analyzer (MECA) instrument suite on board the Phoenix lander.
The Phoenix Mission is led by the University of Arizona, Tucson, on behalf
of NASA. Project management of the mission is by NASA's Jet Propulsion
Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif. Spacecraft development is by Lockheed Martin
Space Systems, Denver.
