Who
We Are
Iowa's 18 Community
Action Agencies (CAA's) exist to develop solutions to poverty
in communities throughout the state. The majority of Community
Action Agencies are private, non-profit organizations that network
with other local organizations to enhance opportunities to serve
the people in community. They receive funding to administer their
programs from a variety of federal, state, local public and private
sources. Community Action Agencies have efficient delivery systems.
Overall, the administrative funding for Community Action Agencies
is around six percent. Community Action Agencies network with
other programs in the community for efficient coordination of
services.
Community Action
Agencies build strong families and communities. Low-income families
receive help in implementing family self-sufficiency plans to
assist them in removing barriers to obtaining full employment
and full potential. Housing development, community investment,
and economic development help to improve the quality of life
for low-income and elderly Iowans.
