Profiles of Older Workers: 2004 — The Census Bureau, in partnership with 31 states, has launched a series of reports on workers 55 and older. Kentucky’s report is scheduled for release in early July. Previously released reports are available at <http://lehd.did.census.gov/led/library/profiles_2007.html>.

Voting and Registration in the Election of November 2006 — A detailed look at registration and participation in the most recent congressional election, as well as the characteristics of those who voted and those who registered, and a look at the reasons why people who were registered did not vote. Find out who were the likeliest voters based on region, education, income, employment, gender, race and Hispanic origin, and other factors. (Scheduled for release in early July.).

Fertility of American Women: 2006 — The first Census Bureau report on fertility patterns of American women to use data from the American Community Survey, making it the first to include state-by-state comparisons of fertility characteristics. Data from the Current Population Survey are also included, permitting historical comparisons. (Tentatively scheduled for release in early July.)

Subcounty Population Estimates: July 1, 2007 — North Las Vegas, Nev., had the nation’s fastest growth rate among large cities (100,000 or more population) last year. Find out whether this Las Vegas suburb will repeat this distinction when July 1, 2007, population estimates of the nation’s incorporated places — cities, towns, villages and boroughs — are released. (Tentatively scheduled for embargoed release in mid-July.)

Economic

2006 County Business Patterns — The report provides data by county on the number of establishments, number of employees, and quarterly and annual payroll for the nation’s 7.5 million businesses with employees. (Scheduled for media embargo June 24, with public release June 26.)

Business Help Site — A wealth of useful information is available on the Census Bureau’s Business Help Site to help companies complete forms for more than a dozen monthly, quarterly and annual economic surveys, and assist in filing electronically. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late June.)

Facts for Features

Labor Day (Sept. 1) — This day, often considered the unofficial end of summer, is a longtime federal holiday (since 1894) honoring our nation’s workers. This fact sheet includes an array of demographic data spotlighting our nation’s labor force. (Scheduled for release July 1.)

Grandparents Day (Sept. 7) — On this day intended for grandchildren to tap the wisdom of their grandparents, the Census Bureau tells the demographic story of these unsung role models and caregivers. (Scheduled for release July 7.)

Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) — Seven Latin American countries — Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Chile – celebrate their independence days on or near Sept. 15. Thus this date is the starting point of the celebration of U.S. Latino culture and traditions. This fact sheet presents data from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas pertaining to the nation’s Hispanic population. (Scheduled for release July 9.)

International Data Base — June 19 — The world population is expected to reach 7 billion in the next decade. More specific global population estimates and projections are released through the International Data Base, an Internet site where information on infant mortality, life expectancy, and other statistics for the world and more than 225 countries can be found. Veteran’s Earnings: 2005 — June 17 — An analysis comparing the earnings of male and female veterans to the rest of the population. The analysis uses data from the 2005 American Community Survey, which allows an exploration of contributing factors to earning differences.
