2010 Census

2008 Dress Rehearsal

Opening of Local Census Offices in Dress Rehearsal Sites — The Census Bureau kicks off the 2008 Census Dress Rehearsal with the opening of local census offices in Fayetteville, N.C. (April 12) and Stockton, Calif. (April 18). The Department of Commerce’s under secretary for economic affairs, the city’s mayor, and other census and local officials will participate in events in Stockton. (Tentatively scheduled for release April 18.)

Demographics Surveys

Estimates of U.S. and State Population by Age, Sex, Race and Hispanic Origin: July 1, 2006 — National- and state-level population estimates cross-tabulated by these demographic characteristics. (Tentatively scheduled for release early May.)

Facts for Features

Father’s Day (June 17) — “Dear old dad” may be treated to breakfast in bed and a new necktie by his family on his special day. The Census Bureau can’t be as elaborate, but it does honor him with a collection of statistical information from its demographic and economic subject areas pertaining to Father’s Day. (Scheduled for release April 17.)

The Fourth of July — The Census Bureau celebrates our nation’s 231st birthday with a collection of statistics on flags, fireworks and food. Data come from across demographic and economic subject areas. (Tentatively scheduled for release early May.)

Economic Surveys

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Survey: 2005 — April 11— This supplement to the Annual Capital Expenditures Survey provides data on e-business infrastructure investment. In 2005, U.S. businesses with employees spent $232 billion on ICT equipment such as computers, software, telephones and fax machines. 2006 Annual Survey of State Government Tax Collections — March 30 — Summary of taxes collected by each state for up to 25 tax categories. Nationwide, state tax collections were up nearly 9 percent from 2005. Internet address: <http://www.census.gov/govs/www/statetax.html>.
