2003 Census Test -- Focuses on new response technology, as well as testing changes to race and Hispanic-origin questions. (Tentatively scheduled for release on Jan. 16.)

U.S. Census Bureau to Count Americans Overseas During 2004 Census Tests -- In 2004, the Census Bureau plans to conduct tests in three overseas sites, to be announced later, as part of the initial efforts toward determining the feasibility of counting overseas Americans in the 2010 Census. (Tentatively scheduled for release in two weeks.)

Census Bureau Facts for Features: African-American History Month -- Statistical information from the Census Bureau's demographic and economic subject areas about the African-American community, whose history is celebrated in February. (Similar Facts for Features commemorate other events and holidays throughout the year.) (Tentatively scheduled for release on Jan. 16.)

Estimates of the U.S. Population by Age, Sex, Race and Hispanic Origin: July 1, 2001 -- National-level population estimates covering these demographic characteristics. First such estimates since Census 2000 and first national estimates showing new racial classifications. (Tentatively scheduled for release in one week.)

Statistical Abstract of the United States: 2002 --Latest edition of the nation's data book, a perennial government bestseller; first published in 1878. (Tentatively scheduled for release in two weeks.)

The Foreign-Born Population in the United States, March 2002 -- Annual report and 60 data tables showing selected characteristics by nativity, citizenship status, year of entry into the United States and region of birth. (Tentatively scheduled for release in three weeks.)

Census Bureau Facts for Features: Valentine's Day -- Statistical information from the Census Bureau's demographic and economic subject areas pertaining to Valentine's Day 2003. (Tentatively scheduled for release on Jan. 31.)

Economic

Update on the 2002 Economic Census --More than 5 million businesses received economic census forms last month and will report their business activity at more than 23 business locations. The forms are due by Feb. 12. (Tentatively scheduled for release on Jan. 15).

Government Organization: 2002 -- First report from the 2002 Census of Governments, lists types of functioning governments in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. (Tentatively scheduled for release in one week.)

2001 Service Annual Survey - Information Sector Services -- Data on software publishers, motion picture and sound recording, broadcasting and telecommunications, and information and data processing services. (Tentatively scheduled for release in one week.)

2001 Annual Survey of Manufactures, Statistics for Industry Groups and Industries -- Data on employment and payroll, production workers and wages, cost of materials, value added by manufacturers, value of shipments, total capital expenditures and other measures of manufacturing activity for all manufacturing establishments for 1997-2001. (Tentatively scheduled for release in one week.)

2001 Annual Survey of Manufactures, Geographic Area Statistics -- State data on the number of employees, production workers, value added by manufacturers, cost of materials, value of shipments and new capital expenditures for the nation's manufacturing establishments for 1997-2001. Groups covered include food, apparel, lumber, chemicals, computers and transportation equipment. (Tentatively scheduled for release in one week.)

2001 Service Annual Survey - Truck Transportation, Couriers and Messengers, and Warehousing and Storage Sectors -- Data on general freight trucking, couriers and local messengers, warehousing and storage, including size and origin of shipments and commodities handled. (Tentatively scheduled for release in one week.)

2001 Service Annual Survey - Computer Services Sector -- Data on professional, scientific and technical services such as accounting and tax preparation; architectural services; scientific research services; and advertising. (Tentatively scheduled for release in one week.)

2001 Service Annual Survey - Securities and Commodity Contracts Intermediation and Brokerage Services -- Data on revenues of securities and commodity underwriters, dealers and brokers and other financial industries. (Tentatively scheduled for release in one week.)

Annual Capital Expenditures: 2001 -- Capital investment spending by 130 industry categories, including such capital expenditures as buildings and other structures, machinery and equipment, furniture, computers and vehicles. (Tentatively scheduled for release in three weeks.)

The Profile America CD for January is in distribution. This series of 60-second features, one for each day of the month, is heard on more than 500 stations across the country. Each feature is keyed to an event whose anniversary or observance is celebrated on the air date. The New Year's first Profile America covers such items as the anniversary of the founding of the Professional Golf Association, the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the inventions of the ice cream bar and the dental drill.
