This pair of true- and false-color images from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite shows a snow trail laid down by a winter storm in southern Kazakhstan and Russia on November 7, 2002. In the false-color image, snow and ice are red, clouds are peach, and land surfaces are green. Note the reddish tinge to the Caspian Sea, which the true-color image indicates is starting to freeze.
