Only those States that were able to report workforce data by Screening and Intake Workers and Investigation/Assessment Workers and provided data for Screened-In Investigations and Children Subjects of an Investigation were included in the calculations for Screened-In Investigations per Investigation/Assessment Worker and Children per Investigation/Assessment Worker.

This table breaks down the CPS workers and the number of investigations that each must handle. It first lists the name of each State. The second column lists the number of combined Screening, Intake, Investigation, and Assessment Workers. The third and fourth columns break this down further into Screening and Intake Workers followed by Investigation and Assessment Workers. The fifth column lists the numbers of screened-in investigations and the sixth lists the number of Screened-in Investigations per Investigation Worker. The seventh column lists the total number of Children that are Subjects of an Investigation and the final column lists the number of Children per Investigation or Assessment Worker. A weighted average of 126 children were subjects of an investigation per worker.
