Information on NIAID Labs

Division of Intramural Research Labs

Scientists in NIAID’s Division of Intramural Research (DIR) conduct basic and clinical research covering a wide range of disciplines related to immunology, allergy, and infectious diseases. DIR researchers study all aspects of infectious diseases, including the causative agent, vectors, and pathogenesis in human and animal hosts. Clinical research is also integral to the mission of DIR, allowing key lab discoveries to be rapidly translated into methods to prevent, diagnose, or treat disease. Read more about DIR.

Vaccine Research Center Labs

The Dale and Betty Bumpers Vaccine Research Center (VRC) is dedicated to translating the latest knowledge of disease pathogenesis and immunology into new vaccine strategies, thereby providing safe and effective means to prevent and control human diseases. The primary focus of VRC is to conduct research to develop an effective AIDS vaccine. Read more about VRC.
