Subject: [HealthLiteracy 337] Medicines in My Home

My colleagues at the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Drugs Evaluation and Research asked me to share this with you. It is an interactive educational program on the safe use of over-the counter medicines. I am very pleased to do so. Here's a link to the site <blocked::http://www.fda.gov/medsinmyhome/> http://www.fda.gov/medsinmyhome/
It was piloted at the middle school grade level. They are planning outreach and will develop an adult learner's page. Here's a status report:

"...Right now you will see we have a well developed Teachers' Room, and a less well developed Students' Room. We plan to add more activities for students and make the program so that students can take the program online. In addition, we plan to modify the slides and other documents for an adult audience, so that community educators can use the materials to present in the community, and so that adult learners can take it online as well. It will need to be modified only slightly, as the 6th grade reading level is our target for all the pieces for all ages. We plan to try to get the teachers module to 4-H clubs, boys and girls clubs and scouts, to home schooled, and other school systems. We hope many others will take the program online. "

Here is a press release from the Washington State Pharmacist Association. <http://www.wsparx.org/File/PatientCareCenter/Education/pcceducation.asp> http://www.wsparx.org/File/PatientCareCenter/Education/pcceducation.asp

If you have comments on this new program, please share them with me.
