Regional Total Snowfall Amounts from Saturday and Sunday's Early Spring Storm
The strong early spring storm system that tracked from the southern Plains northeastward across the mid Mississippi valley and into the central Great Lakes Saturday through early Sunday morning produced significant rain and snow across the region. The following maps (courtesy of Midwest Regional Climate Center) show where the heaviest snow fell, and where the greatest amount of precipitation (rain, or rain combined with water content of snow) occurred.
The highest snowfall amounts fell in two rather distinct bands. The first occured Saturday afternoon and evening from west central and northwest Missouri northestward across south central and northeast Iowa into southwest and east central Wisconsin. A second heavier band of snow developed late Saturday night and into early Sunday morning from west central to northeast Illinois and far southeastern Wisconsin, across Lake Michigan to northern lower Michigan.
