Expanded River Forecast Services on the Fox and Illinois Rivers

Flooding on Illinois River Sep 2008In order to provide additional flood forecast and warning services on portions of the Fox and Illinois rivers in northern Illinois, the NWS Chicago office will provide river forecasts and river flood warnings for the Fox River at Montgomery Illinois and the Illinois River at Ottawa IL beginning at 1400 coordinated universal time(UTC)/8 am CST on March 5 2009. River forecasts will be issued when water levels are expected to reach or exceed action stage. Flood warnings will be issued when water levels are expected to reach or exceed the flood stages of 13 feet on the Fox River at Montgomery and 463 feet on the Illinois River at Ottawa IL. Assigned flood stages are provisional, and may be modified in the future based on additional or updated impact information.

River forecast and flood warning information will be made available on the NWS Chicago Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS) page available from Weather.gov/chicago. River flood information will also be broadcast on the NOAA/NWS all hazards weather radio.
