September Rainfall - What a Difference a Month Makes
Rainfall so far this month over portions of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana has been well above normal. In many locations rainfall for the month to date has already exceeded the total monthly rainfall for last August. Remnants of what once was hurricane Gustav provided a widespread 2 to 4 inch rainfall last Thursday. Widespread rain occurred again yesterday with totals between 0.5 and 1.5 inches. At the beginning of this month, soil moisture was low due to well below normal precipitation in August. Soil moisture has increased significantly thanks to the recent rains.
Another storm system will be affecting parts of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana Friday into Saturday that has the potential for more significant rainfall over northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.
