Unhealthy Ozone Levels Again Tuesday

Tuesday's air quality is expected to continue to be unhealthy across parts of the area due to elevated amounts of ozone.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) have declared Tueday as an Air Quality Action Day for northwest Indiana and the Chicago metro area.

A large area of high pressure over the eastern U.S. will provide northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana with mostly sunny conditions Tuesday morning and into the afternoon before clouds start to gradually increase later in the day.  The sunshine, warm temperatures and fairly light winds will favor the formation and concentration of ozone near the ground.  The concentration of the ozone is expected to once again reach unhealthful levels Tueday.

IDEM and IEPA recomend that persons avoid prolonged outdoor exertion, especially those with pre-existing respiratory problems, on Air Quality Action Days.
