July 27 Funnel Clouds and Wall Clouds - update

There were several reports of a funnel cloud west of  Shorewood near the Grundy-Will County line Thursday July 27 around 400 to 420 PM. There were other reports of a wall cloud and funnel cloud from Lockport/Homer Glen east to Orland Park and Tinley Park. Another report came from near Whiting, IN. If you have video or photographs of the storm please contact Jim Allsopp at jim.allsopp@noaa.gov or call 815-834-1435 between the hours of 800 AM through 800 PM.  In particular, we are trying to determine if there was a tornado. Photos or reports of swirling dust or debris at ground level, under the funnel cloud or wall cloud would be evidence that the rotation extended from the storm to the ground.

Here are a few pictures that have been sent to us from the public from this storm.

The following pictures of a wall cloud were taken by John Denk from just east of Tinley Park near 177th and Central.

The following picure of a funnel cloud was taken by Craig Duy of Smith Engineering Consultants in southeast Kendall County near the Will County line.  The timestamp should actually read 4:13pm.

The following picture was taken on the west side of Joliet by Kyle and Ryan Muhr.
