Woodridge is StormReady!
Woodridge has been recognized as a StormReady community by the Chicago area StormReady Advisory Board. Led by Sergeant David Krupka and Officer Kevin Lindblom of the Woodridge Police Department, Woodridge has met or exceeded the requirements to be certified as a StormReady Communuty. The StormReady Board was represented by Ed Fenelon and Jim Allsopp of the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Romeoville, Ron Carlson of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, and Tom Janetske of the Illinois Emergency Services and Management Association.
Woodridge has established a 24 hour warning point and an Emergency Operations Center at the police department. The facility has redundant methods of receiving severe weather watches, warnings and information from the National Weather Service via NOAA Weather Radio, radio and satellite communications from DuPage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (OHSEM), and the internet. They also have multiple methods of disseminated warnings to the community including sirens, cable TV, pagers for special needs citizens, and NOAA Weather Radio in all public buildings, schools, and preschools. There are trained Skywarn spotters in the community, and reports of severe weather are relayed to the NWS via DuPage County OHSEM. The police department has also provided public education about severe storm safety.
Woodridge is the 18th StormReady community in the 23 county area of northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana served by the NWS office in Romeoville. There are 5 StormReady Counties, including DuPage County. There are 50 StormReady communities and counties across Illinois, and 1060 nationwide.
