Mayors’ Proclaim Homeless and Near Homeless Awareness Week

John Warford, Mayor of the City of Bismarck and Tim Helbling, Mayor of the City of Mandan proclaim September 1-4, 2009, as Homeless and Near Homeless Awareness Week.

Each night, there are homeless people in need of shelter and services, and there are a greater number of hidden homeless in our communities who have not sought out or received assistance through existing agencies.

Project Homeless Connect, Central Dakota Veterans Stand Down, and service providers throughout the Bismarck Mandan communities are working together to provide homeless and near homeless civilians and veterans with vital services.

Project Homeless Connect and the Central Dakota Veterans Stand Down event will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2009, 11 AM – 4PM, at the Bismarck AMVETS Club, 2403 Railroad Ave., Bismarck.

It is a “one-day, one-stop” event for individuals, families and veterans who may be experiencing homelessness, at risk of homelessness, or in basic need. The event’s purpose is to connect people to services all on one day and in one location with the focus on immediacy, hospitality and results.

Available services at the event include a free meal, free haircuts, housing applications, employment assistance, veterans affairs, chemical dependency assistance, healthcare, education assistance, food items, identification/birth certificate assistance, blankets, hygiene products and much more!

Free CAT Bus tickets to the event are available, if transportation is needed.
