Central Avenue Bridge Platforms

Mayor Martin J. Chávez cuts the ribbon on the Central Avenue Bridge Platforms

Albuquerque’s beauty continues to flourish and with the recent addition of the Central Avenue Bridge Platforms, one can marvel at the picturesque Bosque and the improvement to the city streets.

The new additions to the bridge are four observation decks overlooking the Rio Grande and improvements to the surrounding streetscape. With two viewing decks located on each side of the bridge, each containing laser engraved information on wildlife, ecology, and local history one can enjoy the view and take in some of the community’s culture. Along with the viewing decks there have also been cosmetic improvements such as light poles with decorative banners, stone encasements around the posts on the edge of the bridge and the bike trail is now lined with LED lighting.

The additions are estimated to cost $2 million, with funding coming from GO Bond money, the quarter cent transportation tax and a state grant. Now completed, the redesigned bridge will make for a pleasant passage between the Bio Park and the Atrisco area.
