Table 1. Summary of seabird avoidance measures used in 2004 by demersal groundfish longline catcher-processor (CP)
and catcher (CV) vessels in the Bering Sea (BS), Aleutian Islands (AI), and Gulf of Alaska (GOA) Regions of Alaskan
waters while NMFS-certified groundfish observers were on board. Vessels 60 feet length overall and larger have 100% or
30% observer coverage of fishing days depending on vessel size. Observers spot-checked for avoidance gear during the set
but did not monitor the entire setting process. |
