What do you know about Sirenia?
Sirenia are mammals which means they are warm blooded, they have hair on their bodies (at some stage in their lives), and they give birth to live offspring. Sirenians spend their whole lives in water. Probably the most popular mammal from the Sirenians is the manatee.
What does the word "Sirenia" mean?
The word "Sirenia" came from the word "siren." "Sirens" are legendary Greek sea beauties that lured sailor in to the sea. It is thought that old-time mermaid sightings were actually sirenians rather than mythical half women, half fish.
