Animal Welfare Successfully Adopts Over 100 Bunnies; Thanks Community

Just some of the 100+ bunnies confiscated by Field Service Officers

Animal Welfare is no longer awash in bunnies! Over 100 of them voluntarily surrendered by a Northeast Albuquerque resident in June finally have been adopted.  "We were in need of many caring, responsible adopters for these rabbits and that's just what we got" said Jeanine L. Patterson, MS, RN, COHN-S, Director of Animal Welfare.  "We want to thank the community for responding so quickly and giving these adorable pets a loving home."

The rabbits, ranging from only three weeks old to full grown, were taken from a Northeast Albuquerque resident who had been caring for them, but over the past few months allowed the situation to get out of control.

On its website, The House Rabbit Society, a national nonprofit organization, says rabbits are social animals who need affection and can become terrific pets if given a chance to interact with their human families. “Rabbits can be wonderful indoor companions” says House Rabbit Society President Margo DeMello. “They get along with many other companion animals (including gentle cats and dogs), are intelligent, affectionate and inquisitive, and can readily learn to use a litter box.”
