Specific Area Message Decoding (SAME) |
SAME is a new feature available on NOAA Weather Radios now sold with geographic encoders. SAME allows residents to receive severe weather alerts for specific geographic areas. Weather radio receivers with the SAME feature will allow pre-selection of National Weather Service alerts that you want to receive on the county of your choosing. These new radios are on sale at most electronic stores.
Your new radio with the SAME feature will need to have FIPS codes programmed into it. For these codes, refer to:
South Dakota (046) Minnesota (027) Index of U.S. and Territories
For more information on SAME please contact our office.
