CS Intern Steven P. Foss

As a Justice Studies and Political Science Major at Kent State University, selecting Foreign Commercial Service-Bucharest as the location for my student internship was a sound decision for which I am ever grateful. As a small business entrepreneur, I was looking for an opportunity to broaden my experience and knowledge in the world of diplomacy and foreign trade. Romania’s recent ascension into the European Union made FCS-Bucharest a prime location to watch and study a rapidly growing and evolving economy.

I began my internship in May of 2007 and concluded in early September 2007. I had direct involvement in several very exciting activities including drafting the talking points of the US Ambassador for the Polaris FireExpress Demonstration and Donation ceremony in June 2007. The most rewarding was my involvement in the Embassy’s 4th of July Celebration at the Ambassador’s Residence by assisting in the invitation drafting process and attending this incredible event with my fellow FCS-Bucharest colleagues.

Last but certainly not least, the staff of FCS-Bucharest played the most crucial role in my experience and development. This amazing team’s accomplishments were astounding and difficult to live up to. I was proud to have been chosen by such a wonderful team and be part of the effort of the Embassy of the United States of America and the US Department of Commerce. FCS-Bucharest did not feel like an office staff, but rather a family which I was proud to be made a member of. I highly recommend this opportunity to any student wishing to expand their horizons and career possibilities.
