Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA)

The Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) is a Department of Defense (DoD) combat support agency that provides a broad range of acquisition management services for America's warriors. DCMA professionals help ensure that DoD and other Federal acquisition programs stay on track, and that supplies and services meet performance requirements and are delivered on time and within cost limits.

Managing more than 300,000 prime contracts with current work valued at more than $1.2 trillion, DCMA contributes directly to United States military readiness and the preservation of the nation's freedom.

Approximately 10,000 civilian and military professionals throughout the United States and in 26 countries around the world carry out DCMA's mission.

Mission & Roles

DCMA’s mission is to provide Contract Administration Services to the Department of Defense Acquisition Enterprise and its partners to ensure delivery of quality products and services to the Warfighter; on time and on cost. As the DoD’s leader in quality assurance; contract administration; and cost, schedule, and supply chain predictability, DCMA employees fulfill the following rules and responsibilities:

  • Global Supplier Management for Program and Sustainment Efforts
  • Product Assurance (e.g., Software/Engineering/Quality Assurance)
  • Earned Value Management
  • Industrial Analysis
  • Safe and Effective Aircraft Operations at Contractor Facilities
  • Acquisition Management of Special Access Programs and in the International Theater
  • Product-Specific Skills (Aeronautical, Naval, Ground Systems & Munitions, and Space & Missile Systems)
  • Business and Financial Analysis Functions that include Contractor Insurance and Pension Reviews, Forward Pricing Rate Agreements, Cost/Price Analysis, and Corporate Systems Approvals (e.g., accounting, Earned Value Management Systems, purchasing)
  • Contract Safety
  • Management of Government Property in Contractor Possession (including plant clearance)
  • Fraud Deterrence, Mitigation & Remediation
