Award to honor businesses that encourage employees to volunteer in Texas public schools

Applications for the 2009 Employers For Education Excellence (EEE) Award, which honors employers who encourage and support employee participation in school activities, will be accepted in June and July. 

Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate report

The Division of Accountability Research has issued a new report: Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate Examination Results in Texas, 2007-2008. Published on an annual basis, the report presents an update on AP and IB participation, examination performance, and advanced courses taken by Texas high school students through the 2007-2008 school year.

TEA encourages schools to reopen based on CDC flu guidance

In light of revised school closure guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Texas Education Agency today is advising districts to reopen schools.

Eighty-four percent of fifth-grade students and 79 percent of eighth-grade students pass TAKS math

Eighty-four percent of fifth-grade students and 79 percent of eighth graders passed the math Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test on the first administration, the Texas Education Agency announced today. 

Best of Texas Awards go to 12 outstanding individuals

A high school student who has turned his life around, a mother whose tragic loss of her own children inspired her to create a youth program, and a leader who last year inspired citizens to provide more than 40,000 hours of service to at-risk students are among 12 outstanding individuals who will receive a Best of Texas Award today.
