This year marks the ninth annual California Arts Day on Friday, October 2. Slated for the first Friday in October and corresponding with National Arts and Humanities Month, California Arts Day coordinates the creative energy and love of the arts in the state to celebrate the arts as one community. The web form to post Arts Day events just went up this week -- submit your creative plans for California Arts Day!

99 California Organizations Receive Recovery Act Funds from NEA
Grants totaling $4.45 million go to California arts organizations to support the preservation of jobs

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) announced that 99 California arts organizations will receive American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding to support the preservation of jobs, for a total of $4.45 million in this round of funding. Most grants were either for $25,000 or $50,000, depending on the arts organizations' needs.

This week the California Arts Council lost a talented artist and good friend: visual artist Armando Cid, husband of Josie S. Talamantez, Chief of Programs at the California Arts Council, and good friend to the California Arts Council.
