*In 2009 and 2010, the BLM will evaluate how to incorporate the California Desert Conservation Area (CDCA) in the NLCS in terms of management.  The BLM-administered portion of the CDCA (including wilderness areas) totals 10,671,080 acres and includes some multiple use areas not traditionally incorporated in the NLCS.

**Some NLCS units overlap. Because of these overlaps, it is not possible to arrive at an acreage total for all NLCS units simply by adding the acreage total for each category listed above (e.g., Monuments and National Conservation Areas, Wilderness, etc.).

* In 2009 and 2010, the BLM will evaluate how to incorporate the California Desert Conservation Area (CDCA) in the NLCS in terms of management.  The BLM-administered portion of the CDCA (including wilderness areas) totals 10,671,080 acres and includes some multiple use areas not traditionally incorporated in the NLCS.

**Three Wilderness Areas occur in more than one State. For example, the Beaver Dam Mountains Wilderness is located in Arizona and Utah.  This area is counted in both Arizona's and Utah's totals for the number of Wilderness Areas in each State, but the overall total of Wilderness Areas that BLM manages counts this area only once.

***National Scenic and Historic Trails cross state lines. The BLM administers a total of 10 National Historic Trails and five National Scenic Trails, all of which are components of the National Trail System.
