Communication Sites

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) administers over 3,500 communication facilities across the eleven western states. These facilities range from television and radio stations to wireless internet. BLM administers its communication facilities program under regulations contained in 43 CFR 2800, as well as policies established to supplement those regulations. Most of the communication facilities administered by BLM occur at communication sites- on mountaintops or other higher elevations. Each of the communication sites has one or more facilities (buildings, towers, antennas, etc.) owned by private or governmental entities, and contain a variety of equipment within each facility. Activities at communication sites are controlled locally by BLM's land use and communication site management plans.

This web site provides users with the following information on Communication Sites that are authorized by the Bureau of Land Management. This site also contains links to policies, rent schedules, forms, contacts, and other items of interest related to communication uses. The following information is available for each communication site:

  • Communication site general vicinity map
  • Detailed map of the communication site and it's facilities- May require downloading of Autoexpress Viewer
  • Pictures of the facilities at the communication site
  • Communication site management plan
  • A listing of the facilities
  • BLM Serial number authorizing use of the facility with a link to serial register page from BLM's Legacy Rehost 2000 (LR2000). The serial register page provides detailed information about the authorized facility.

Please note that site-specific information is only provided for those communication sites that have draft or final Communication Site Management Plans. For those communication sites that do not have management plans, please contact the local BLM office for more information.
