GOV. RITTER WELCOMES CONOCOPHILLIPS TO COLORADO
Gov. Bill Ritter today welcomed ConocoPhillips to Colorado and lauded the company's decision to establish new Global Technology and Corporate Learning centers in Louisville. Gov. Ritter hailed the development as another demonstration of Colorado's emerging position as a leader in the New Energy Economy.
"I'm extremely excited to welcome ConocoPhillips to Colorado," Gov. Ritter said. "The Corporate Learning Center will serve as the company's worldwide training center. They expect thousands of employees will come to Colorado and the training center every year.
"In addition, the Global Technology Center will serve as a hub for ConocoPhillips' research and development of renewable energy and high-tech carbon fuels recovery.
"This demonstrates the value of Colorado's New Energy Economy to our communities and our state as a whole. ConocoPhillips clearly recognizes the need to marry the traditional oil-and-gas industry with renewable energy. Fossil-fuels will be part of our energy future for decades, but we must build a bridge to the future through new, cleaner technologies and renewable energy.
"The decision by ConocoPhillips -- combined with the work of the state legislature, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the intellectual resources at our research universities -- will lead to a stronger New Energy Economy for Colorado. That, in turn, offers us endless opportunities and the promise of greater energy security, economic security and environmental security for generations to come."
ConocoPhillips recently purchased the 432-acre site from Sun Microsystems, which had purchased it in 2005 from Storage Technology Corp.
